Our Story
Our Story
Some love stories begin with a grand gesture or a chance encounter. John and Jonah’s began much more quietly—so quietly, in fact, that neither of them can pinpoint the exact moment they first met.
As children, they crossed paths at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, where they were both part of the youth group. They grew up in the same community, shared mutual friends, and John happened to be good friends with Jonah’s cousin, Brian Padura. Over the years, they saw each other here and there, never realizing that life was slowly weaving their stories together.
By sophomore year of high school, John decided it was time to take a chance and asked Jonah out.
The answer was… no.
The reason for that “no” depends on who is telling the story. John is convinced it was because Jonah liked someone else. Jonah insists she was simply terrified that her parents would find out she was dating. Looking back now, though, they both agree that it happened exactly the way it was meant to. Had they started dating in high school, they are not sure their story would have had the same ending.
Instead, that chapter allowed something even more special to grow: a genuine friendship. Through the years, they became best friends, sharing countless conversations, laughter, adventures, and just enough lingering hints that maybe there was something more between them.
Then came one unforgettable night.
After perhaps a little too much to drink, Jonah decided it was the perfect time to FaceTime John with one very important question:
“So… when are we going to start dating?”
As unexpected as the moment was, it sparked a conversation neither of them could ignore.
Not long afterward, John came to visit Jonah while she was away at college. With a little more courage—and thankfully much better timing—he asked her out again.
This time, the answer was an easy “yes.”
The next four to five years were filled with long-distance love. Between college, work, and life’s many adventures, they spent countless hours on the phone, made endless road trips and flights to visit one another, and learned that no amount of distance could lessen what they were building together. Every goodbye made the next hello even sweeter, and every mile only strengthened the foundation of their relationship.
Looking back, it is funny how a friendship that began in church, a high school rejection, years of “what ifs,” and one unforgettable FaceTime call led them here.
Some stories are written all at once. John and Jonah’s story was written slowly—over years of friendship, patience, laughter, and perfect timing. And perhaps that is what makes it feel a little magical: not that they found each other in a single moment, but that they kept finding their way back to each other until the timing was finally right.
And now, they can't wait to begin their greatest adventure yet—together, as husband and wife.
